That’s city life

December 31, 2007

London is….

…..Still unchanged from the last time I was here. Everything from how Picadilly is, to the familiarity of the tube, to how Bayswater looks like mini-Malaysia, to the walk from the Blackfriars tube to Tate is still exactly as I remember it.

….. As confused as ever. Pissing down one moment, sunny the next.

…..Duck rice at Bayswater! Shawarma at Edgware! Proper fish and chips at Rock & Sole Plaice off Covent Garden! (How I have missed you all)

….using the tube to catch up on my books. And finding good music. No, seriously.

…..Getting windblown all the time. It’s not too cold (a nice 8-11 degrees) but the image of me holding on to dear life on the pavement by my fingernails plays everytime I walk out from the flat.

…..getting used to the pound is now multiplied by 7 instead of 1.5 now. Ouch.

…..Free museums!!

…..Seeing Lily Allen shopping for baby clothes at Harrods with the rest of the rakyat chavz. *humming LDN*

…..The mad line at Gucci in Harrods. It looped the loop, did a double twirl, skittled around Prada and finally settled somewhere around Salvatore! I, of course, was relegated to queue-ing up while the ladies roamed plains looking for victims)

…..having great friends, and loving the fact that they moving on with their lives. (I’m v. jealous)

Have a marvelous 2008 everyone. It’s almost time for a fresh start.

Living your dream

December 29, 2007

I was driving by some Celcom billboards, featuring Ryan Giggs as the Celcom Power icon recently and it got me thinking how that particluar campaign was conceived.

I can just see everyone sitting down in the conference room;

Planner: Okay, so we sold the idea of getting brand ambassadors. Now, what’s your biggest wet dream?

Creative: I want Ryan Giggs.

Planner: Why?

Creative: So I can take picture with him and get his autograph la, why you think?

Planner: Okay, I tell client that we need him because he has a clean image and he is fast and he is reliable.

Creative: And he also very handsome.

Planner:……okay. That too

Hee..What other industry lets you get what you want and make someone else pay for it?

What if

December 26, 2007

In view of the festive season and all, the papers today did a small section on, “If I could get everyone in the world to do one thing in 2008, I’d get them to….”

The usual load of poppy-cock streamed in. John wants everyone to recycle, Ali wants everyone to just live happily ever after, Ah Chong wants to spread good cheer etc etc.

Fuck that, if I could get everyone in the world to do something in 2008, I’d get them to send me 10bucks.

Xmas was fun, roll on the New Year on the Thames!

’tis the season

I love the KLCC and Midvalley lobby this festive season. The big Christmas tree there just radiates “fa la la la la”-ness and the spirit of Christmas. People smiling and laughing, admiring the tree, kids running around in (faux)snow, happy-odd couples taking pictures with the tree ; everyone (regardless of colour or religion) is just happy.

Prime Minister Hugh Grant might have his arrival lounge in the airport, I have the mall lobby during Christmas.

Merry Christmas everyone, and here’s to an amazing new year.

Outlook 2008

Joni

I was listening to Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now and her 2000 version came up directly after the 1969.

Her 1969 single was an extraordinarily mature outlook on life. I can only wonder how her views has evolved in the year 2000 version.
